National Apprenticeship Week 2014: Nick meets Ilfracombe apprentices

March 5, 2014 2:37 PM

Nick Harvey has met apprentices from Ilfracombe as part of the National Apprenticeship Week (3-7th March) campaign.

National Apprenticeship Week aims to promote and boost the profile of apprenticeships among businesses and school and college leavers, showing them the wealth of opportunities available under apprenticeship schemes.

Young people completing their apprenticeships at Ilfracombe companies Flint Hosts, the Wizard Brewing Company and Robins Garage spoke to Nick at an event last week about their experiences and the skills they have developed during their time in training.

There will be an Apprenticeship Showcase on Thursday 13th March at Barnstaple Hotel - open to employers, young people and parents. For more information please see www.northdevonplus.com/what-we-do/apprenticeship.aspx

Commenting, Nick Harvey MP said:

"This is the fourth year that the Northern Devon Employment & Skills Board has hosted the Apprenticeship Showcase. I'm very pleased to support it and see for myself the continued growth of apprenticeships in North Devon, providing an important career path for young people in particular and boosting the local economy. Small businesses and manufacturers are at the heart of North Devon's economic recovery and it's been brilliant to see them take on apprentices of all ages over the past few years.

"We must now build on this success and keep momentum up. It's great to see local agencies, training providers and employers all coming together to support apprenticeships during this year's National Apprenticeship Week. With support from the Government - led by Lib Dem Business Secretary Vince Cable - and funding and increased variety available, there has never been a better time for small businesses that are recruiting to consider offering an apprenticeship.

"I would urge North Devon businesses to drop in to the Apprenticeships Showcase during the course of the day. There will be much local expertise on hand to provide impartial advice on getting started with apprenticeships."
